How do I know if my horse needs veterinary physiotherapy?

Veterinary physiotherapy can help by improving movement and performance, as well as enhancing wellbeing and providing preventative care.

Common signs that physiotherapy can help with include:

  • an unwillingness to go forward

  • napping, bucking or rearing

  • being 'cold backed'

  • a reduction in performance

  • a sudden reluctance with flying changes

  • refusal to jump a particular type of fence

  • a schooling issue that seems difficult to work through.

  • being ‘girthy’ or upset when being groomed

  • a subtle change in behaviour

  • a feeling that something is a 'bit off'

Often a rider can feel subtle changes in movement before they can be seen from the ground.

Treatment can be highly beneficial for working, competition or racing animals to help them reach their full athletic potential and avoid injury.

Many owners choose veterinary physiotherapy for their animal to identify issues before they become problematic, or to help their animal manage getting older.
